Frequently Asked Questions

Does Lysol Disinfectant Spray pose any fire or burn risk in my home?

No. This is a flameless aerosol spray, not a candle or open-flame product. There is no wick, no hot wax, and no exposed flame, so it eliminates the fire risks associated with traditional candles and warmers. Always follow label directions and avoid spraying near open flames or pilot lights for best practice.

Is it safe to use Lysol Disinfectant Spray around my kids and pets?

Yes. The bleach-free formula is designed to be safer for households with children and pets than chlorine-based disinfectants. Keep children and pets out of the area during application, allow surfaces to dry, and then the space is safe to re-enter.

Will the aerosol mist leave any hot residue or cause skin burns?

No. The spray disperses as a cool, fast-drying mist at room temperature. It does not heat up, and treated surfaces remain cool to the touch once dry, so there is no burn risk on countertops, light switches, or doorknobs.

Can I use it while my baby is sleeping in the next room?

For nursery and infant sleep areas, spray in a well-ventilated space and allow surfaces to fully dry before bringing the baby back. Many parents spray in the morning or nap time when airflow is good, then let the Crisp Linen scent settle before sleep.

Is the formula non-flammable in storage and in the trash?

Like most aerosol disinfectants, the contents are pressurized, so follow standard aerosol storage guidelines: keep away from heat sources, do not puncture, and do not incinerate the can. When stored at room temperature and used as directed, it is a low-risk household product.

Is Lysol Disinfectant Spray safer than an open-flame candle for freshening a room?

Yes, in terms of fire risk, it is significantly safer. A candle requires an open flame, hot wax, and supervision, while Lysol Disinfectant Spray delivers fragrance and odor control without any combustion, so it is often chosen by families and pet owners who want scent without fire risk.

Does the aerosol contain any harsh chemicals I should worry about?

The formula is bleach-free and EPA-registered, but it is still a disinfectant, so use it as directed. Keep it out of reach of children, do not ingest, and ventilate the room during use. For most households, it is considered a gentler alternative to chlorine bleach sprays.

Will the Crisp Linen scent trigger allergies or asthma?

Fragrance sensitivity varies by individual. If anyone in your home is fragrance-sensitive or has asthma, test in a small area first with good ventilation. The Crisp Linen scent is designed to mask chemical odors and is generally considered pleasant, but sensitive users should always assess personal tolerance.

Can I spray it on a child's mattress or crib without worry?

Yes, the bleach-free formula is approved for soft surfaces including children's bedding, stuffed animals, and fabric toys. Lightly mist from 6 to 8 inches away and allow to fully dry, typically around 10 minutes, before the child uses the item.

How do I use Lysol Disinfectant Spray on hard surfaces?

Hold the can 6 to 8 inches from the surface and spray until visibly wet. For sanitizing, let it sit for 10 seconds. For full disinfecting action, allow 3 minutes of contact time, then let the surface air dry or wipe with a clean cloth.

How do I use it on soft surfaces like couches or pet beds?

Spray 6 to 8 inches away until the fabric is lightly damp. Allow 10 minutes of contact time for disinfecting soft surfaces, then let it air dry. Test on a hidden area first for delicate fabrics.

How often should I use Lysol Disinfectant Spray in my home?

For high-touch hard surfaces like doorknobs, light switches, and counters, daily use is common during cold and flu season. For soft surfaces such as couches, pet beds, and backpacks, weekly use is a typical routine. Bathrooms benefit from a weekly mold and mildew application on pre-cleaned surfaces.

Is this product safe for use on fabric, including couch upholstery?

Yes. The bleach-free formula is specifically approved for soft surfaces, including couches, curtains, and cushions. Always spot-test a hidden area first, especially on silk, leather, or vintage fabrics.

Can I use Lysol Disinfectant Spray on wood furniture or electronics?

For sealed wood, spray lightly and wipe dry. For electronics such as keyboards, phones, and remotes, spray onto a soft cloth first, then wipe the surface rather than spraying directly to avoid moisture damage.

What is included in the box when I order this product?

Depending on the size you choose, the package contains: 1.58 Fl Oz (Pack of 12 travel cans), 12.5 Fl Oz (Pack of 2 standard cans), or 25 Fl Oz (Pack of 1 value can). Each can is a ready-to-use aerosol with a spray nozzle. Nothing additional is required to use the product.

Is Lysol Disinfectant Spray safe to breathe when used as directed?

When used in a ventilated area and surfaces are allowed to dry, it is considered safe for normal household use. People with asthma or fragrance sensitivity should allow extra ventilation or test in a small area first.

Will the spray stain, discolor, or damage surfaces?

The bleach-free formula is designed to be safe on most hard and soft surfaces. To be safe, always test on a hidden area of delicate fabrics, unsealed wood, or specialty finishes before full application.

What is the difference between Lysol Disinfectant Spray and Lysol All-Purpose Cleaner?

Lysol Disinfectant Spray is an aerosol that disinfects, sanitizes, and deodorizes hard and soft surfaces, including fabrics. Lysol All-Purpose Cleaner is a liquid trigger-spray designed primarily for hard surface cleaning, with separate disinfecting versions available. The disinfectant spray is the better choice for soft surfaces and for one-step deodorizing and germ-killing.
