How To Cut The COB Strip
1. 12V-10mm/Cut; 24V-20mm/Cut, there are many small cutting line on the front of the strip. Or take off the adhesive tape on the back, you can see many soldering points, can cut the strip at those points.
2. After cutting the COB strip, if you want to use the rest of the strip, you can solder wires (need soldering tool) on the back of the COB strip, or use special fast connectors.
Important Tips
1. The COB strip is connected by every 1.64FT length, so there are many soldering points on the COB strip, it's very normal, it will not influent the lighting effect.
2. The COB strip CAN NOT be connected to AC110V directly, need to add DC12V transformer.
3. Please make sure the surface is clean and dry before installing the COB strip.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is 3mm really the slimmest profile I can get, and will it stay hidden in a tight aluminum channel?
Yes, 3mm is the narrowest COB strip on the market. Standard 8mm strips visibly bulge inside shallow channels, but this strip sits flush inside most recessed aluminum profiles, shoe molding, and toe-kick gaps, leaving a clean line and no visible housing.
Will the dotless COB output look like a single continuous bar instead of dotted LEDs?
That is the defining benefit of COB technology. With 400 LEDs per meter mounted directly on the board, the light emits as a smooth, uninterrupted line, which matches the minimalist preference for clean, unbroken visual elements.
I want one neutral color, which option is the most 'less is more'?
For a true minimalist palette, the 4000K neutral white is the most versatile. It is cool enough to read as architectural and warm enough to feel inviting, so a single roll works for kitchens, hallways, and living areas without color shifts between rooms.
Can I cut it to exact lengths so the installation looks intentional, not 'almost right'?
Yes, the strip has cut points every 10mm along the entire length. You can measure, cut, and re-solder to fit a shelf, niche, or alcove to the millimeter, which is essential for a clean, intentional installation.
Does the adhesive backing let me install it without visible screws or clips?
Exactly, the 3M double-sided tape bonds the strip directly to the surface with no mechanical fasteners. The installation reads as a single, unbroken line of light with no visible hardware, which suits a minimalist aesthetic.
I'm building a clutter-free reading nook, can I run the strip under a single shelf without it being seen?
Yes, the 3mm profile and dotless output are specifically designed for this. Mounted under a shelf edge or inside a cove, only the wash of light is visible, not the strip itself, which preserves the clean lines of the space.
I want to light a niche in a plaster wall, will the strip fit the recess?
Most plaster wall niches are framed at standard widths, and the 3mm PCB is narrow enough to fit even the tightest architectural recess. For especially shallow gaps, the strip can also be mounted on its side.
Will the wide 180-degree beam angle light evenly without needing multiple strips?
Yes, the 180-degree beam spreads the light across a wide arc, so a single strip run typically lights a shelf or cove evenly. You will not need to stack two strips to remove dark spots, which keeps the installation visually simple.
How does this compare to a standard 8mm SMD strip for a clean look?
An 8mm SMD strip shows visible individual LED dots, requires wider channels, and is noticeable even when off. The 3mm COB strip is invisible in tight spaces and produces a smooth wash, which is the difference between a finished and a DIY-looking install.
Is this better than a rope light for a minimalist floating shelf?
Rope light has a thick, visible housing and a slightly uneven glow. A COB strip sits flat against the shelf, disappears from view, and gives a perfectly even line of light that matches the clean geometry of minimalist furniture.
Can I install it along a toe-kick without the strip being visible at floor level?
Yes, the 3mm profile and 180-degree beam make toe-kick lighting one of the most popular minimalist applications. The strip is hidden under the cabinet overhang, and only the floor wash is visible, which adds ambience with zero visible hardware.
Will the dotless output keep the wall looking like a clean plane of light, not a dotted pattern?
Exactly. With 400 LEDs per meter, the COB strip produces a continuous gradient on the wall, which is the look minimalist designers aim for. SMD strips throw a dotted pattern that breaks the smooth plane of the surface.
Is the color range restrained enough that I do not have to choose between neon and natural?
The eight variants include four natural whites (3000K, 4000K, 6000K) and four accent colors. For minimalist interiors, the three white options cover virtually every neutral palette without the visual noise of saturated hues.
How do I keep the wiring hidden so the final install still looks minimalist?
The cuttable design and back-side solder pads let you run leads exactly where you want them. Wires can be routed through a 3mm channel, behind furniture, or inside millwork, so nothing is visible after installation.
I want one light source that does ambient and task, will this handle both without adding fixtures?
Yes, with 3000 lumens across 5 meters and full dimming control, a single run under a kitchen cabinet can serve as both task lighting at full brightness and ambient mood lighting at 10 percent, removing the need for extra fixtures.
Will I need to buy extra mounting hardware that breaks the clean look?
No, the 3M double-sided tape is included. For an even cleaner look, the strip can also be pressed into an aluminum profile channel, which acts as both a heat sink and a frameless bezel for the light.
How do I cut the strip and reattach wires between two pieces?
Cut only at the marked copper pads, which appear every 10mm. Use a sharp blade, peel back a small section of the silicone coating at the pad, and tin both the pad and the wire with a soldering iron. Solder the positive and negative pads to matching polarity wires, then seal with heat-shrink tubing for a clean, durable connection.
What power supply do I need to buy separately?
The product ships without a power supply. For the 12V strip you need a 12V DC adapter rated for at least the wattage of your run, and for the 24V version a 24V DC adapter. A 5 meter run at 30W needs at least a 36W power supply with 20 percent headroom, so a 12V 4A or 24V 2A adapter is a safe minimum.
Can I dim the strip, and what dimmer do I need?
Yes, the strip is fully dimmable. For best results, use an in-line PWM dimmer rated for 12V or 24V DC depending on the version, or a touch dimmer that mounts between the power supply and the strip. Make sure the dimmer's amperage rating matches or exceeds the strip's draw.
Will this strip work with a 12V battery or solar setup?
Yes, the 12V variant will run directly off any regulated 12V DC source including a 12V battery bank, a motorcycle electrical system, or a 12V solar charge controller. The 24V variant requires a regulated 24V source, often a step-up converter on a 12V battery.
Is the strip compatible with smart home systems like Alexa or Google Home?
The strip itself is a passive LED load, but you can add smart control by putting a smart plug, a smart LED controller, or a Zigbee/Z-Wave dimmer between the power supply and the strip. Most common 12V/24V smart controllers on the market work with Alexa, Google Home, and Apple HomeKit through their companion apps.
What is in the box when I open it?
Each order includes one 5 meter roll of the 3mm COB LED strip with the 3M double-sided adhesive backing pre-applied, and a small instruction card with cut points and wiring notes. Power supply, dimmer, connectors, and aluminum profile channels are sold separately, which is noted clearly on the listing.
Is the strip safe to leave on 24 hours a day?
Yes, COB LED strips are designed for continuous duty. The 12V/24V low-voltage operation, low heat output, and solid-state LEDs make 24/7 use safe in normal indoor conditions. For longest lifespan, mount the strip on a surface that allows some heat dissipation, such as an aluminum profile, and avoid sealing it inside an airtight enclosure.
How long will the strip last before the LEDs start to dim?
Quality COB LED strips are typically rated for 30,000 to 50,000 hours of use, which translates to roughly 10 to 15 years of normal residential use at 8 hours per day. Running the strip dimmed, keeping it cool, and using a regulated power supply all extend its usable lifespan.
What is the difference between COB and SMD LED strips?
SMD (Surface Mount Device) strips place individual LED chips spaced apart on the board, so you can see distinct dots of light. COB (Chip-on-Board) strips pack hundreds of tiny LED chips directly onto the PCB under a continuous phosphor coating, which produces a smooth, dotless line of light. COB is the newer, higher-end option and is what most architects and designers specify for visible accent lighting.
