Light, delicate tea handpicked in spring
Steep for 1-3 minutes in boiling water before drinking
The leaves from this tea are a medium lime green color. Since this is a traditional sencha (futsumushi) the leaves are more identifiable than in the deep steamed (fukamushi).

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the ingredient list truly just one item?
Yes. The formulation is a single ingredient: Japanese sencha green tea. There are no added flavors, blends, sweeteners, or fillers.
Will the box fit into a clean, uncluttered pantry aesthetic?
Yes. The 50-bag box is compact and understated, designed to sit on a shelf or in a drawer without adding visual noise to a minimalist kitchen.
Are the individual wrappers recyclable?
The outer box and individual sachets can typically be recycled based on local guidelines. The brand's membership in 1% for the Planet also reflects its broader environmental commitments.
Does this need any extra equipment to brew?
No. A mug, hot water, and the bag are all that is required. There is no strainer, infuser, or specialty pot needed, which suits a less-is-more approach.
Will the cup look calm and neutral on a simple table setting?
Yes. The brewed tea is a soft, light green that feels at home in minimalist tableware rather than competing with the rest of the setting.
Is this a good fit for a small kitchen with limited storage?
Yes. A single 50-bag box is more space-efficient than multiple jars or tins of loose-leaf tea, which is helpful in compact or intentional kitchens.
Does the flavor compete with other food or drink I have on hand?
No. The clean, nutty-vegetal profile is mild enough to sit alongside a variety of meals and snacks without clashing, which suits a streamlined routine.
Can I use this as my only tea at home?
Many customers treat it as their everyday default rather than a special-occasion tea. The 50-bag count and consistent flavor make it well suited to be a single, reliable choice.
Does the packaging have a lot of branding and color?
The box is straightforward in design and free of busy graphics, which fits well with neutral, intentional home aesthetics.
Is there a recommended way to brew it without extra accessories?
Yes. Heat water until it is just below a rolling boil, steep one bag for about two minutes, and remove. No additional tools are required for a quality cup.
Will the tea leaves themselves look refined in the cup?
Because the leaves are processed in the traditional futsumushi style, the leaf shape is visually identifiable, which many minimalist drinkers appreciate as a sign of authenticity.
Is this a good option for someone downsizing their kitchen items?
Yes. Replacing a drawer of multiple teas and accessories with a single 50-bag box simplifies the routine without sacrificing quality.
Does the aroma linger and overwhelm a small space?
The aroma is mild and tends to stay close to the cup, so it is unlikely to overpower a small room or interfere with other scents in the home.
Is the brewing process simple enough to teach a beginner?
Yes. The instructions are intentionally simple: one bag, hot water at the crack-bubble stage, and a short steep. Most beginners get a good cup on their first try.
Can I drink this black, without milk or sugar, and still enjoy it?
Yes. The sencha is designed to be enjoyable on its own without additions, which fits a minimalist approach to drinking tea.
Will this replace several other teas in my pantry?
Many customers find that the balanced, everyday profile allows it to stand in for multiple other teas, which reduces clutter and decision fatigue in the kitchen.
How do I brew this sencha for the best flavor?
Heat water to the 'crack bubble' stage, just before a full rolling boil. Place one bag in a 6-8 ounce cup, pour the water over it, and steep for about two minutes. Remove the bag and enjoy. A two-minute steep produces the signature bright green color without bitterness.
Can I steep the bag longer than 3 minutes without it turning bitter?
Yes. Many customers report that this sencha holds up well even when steeped longer than competitors, including longer than the Trader Joe's version. For best flavor, two minutes is the sweet spot, but it tolerates a longer steep better than most bagged green teas.
Can I add milk, lemon, or sweeteners to this sencha?
Yes. Some customers add milk for a coffee-like experience, and others add lemon throughout the day. The sencha holds up well to these additions, which is unusual for bagged green tea. It is also enjoyable on its own with nothing added.
Is this sencha compatible with a standard mug or does it need a special teapot?
It is fully compatible with a standard mug. One bag brews a 6-8 ounce cup, so no teapot, strainer, or infuser is required. This makes it well suited to home, office, and travel use.
Will this work in a single-serve pod-style coffee maker?
These are standard tea bags designed for steeping in hot water, so they are not intended for pod-style brewing machines. A simple mug-and-kettle setup is the recommended way to brew.
What is included in the box when it arrives?
Each box contains 50 individually portioned and individually wrapped sencha tea bags. No additional accessories are included, and no separate items need to be purchased to begin brewing. A mug and hot water are the only requirements.
Is this sencha safe to drink every day?
Yes. It is a single-ingredient green tea with no added sugar, flavors, or additives, and no microplastics in the tea bags. It contains less caffeine than coffee and most black teas, making it a reasonable choice for daily consumption for most adults.
How should I store the box to keep the tea fresh?
Keep the box in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and strong odors. The individual wrapping on each bag protects freshness and aroma, so there is no need to transfer bags to another container, though some customers do move them into saved tins or boxes for added protection.
What is the difference between Japanese sencha and Chinese green tea?
Japanese sencha is typically steamed shortly after harvest, which preserves a bright green color and produces a grassy, vegetal, sometimes nutty flavor profile. Chinese green teas are usually pan-fired, which gives them a nuttier, toastier, sometimes more floral character. This product is an authentic Japanese sencha, processed in the traditional futsumushi style.
