Product Information
GENTLE: Most cleaners today use technologies that were developed almost 100 years ago. In fact, many common deep-cleaning formulas still rely on harmful, petroleum-based chemicals. Dirty Labs is different. Consciously formulated with nontoxic, biobased ingredients, our formulas are safe for sensitive skin and all clothing types. Dirty Labs is cruelty-free, vegan, hypoallergenic, and safe for babies and pets.
EFFECTIVE: For us, dirty-free cleaning is not just about clean ingredients. We formulate to get the job done, and we put our products through rigorous testing to ensure they’re strong enough for those who like to get really dirty. Phytolase, our advanced enzyme cleaning technology targets stains and odors at their source while being extra gentle for you, your clothes, and the planet. But don't just take our word for it see what our customers are saying.
ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY: At Dirty Labs - Less is More. By creating hyper-concentrated formulas, we greatly reduce our package sizes (and thus, our carbon footprint). Our bottles are made of aluminum and can be infinitely recycled. Our ingredients are responsibly sourced and created through biorenewable manufacturing processes. We examine every aspect of our product life cycles in order to achieve the safest, most sustainable solutions.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is this detergent truly safe for baby clothes, burp cloths, and items my infant puts in their mouth?
Yes. The Free & Clear variant is nontoxic, hypoallergenic, vegan, and free of sulfates, dyes, parabens, and CA Prop.65 chemicals. It is EPA Safer Choice certified and 97% USDA Biobased, so it is appropriate for the entire nursery laundry routine.
Will it actually remove tough baby stains like formula, spit-up, and pureed carrot?
Yes. The proprietary Phytolase enzyme technology is engineered to break down organic stains at the molecular level, which is exactly the kind of mess parents face daily. Pre-treat and wash as usual for best results.
Is the formula safe for a child with eczema or sensitive skin?
Yes. The Free & Clear variant is specifically designed for sensitive skin and is hypoallergenic, with no fragrance, dyes, or harsh sulfates that commonly trigger eczema and contact dermatitis flare-ups.
Can I use this in the same load as my older child's play clothes and the baby's items?
Yes. The formula is safe for the entire family's laundry, so you can consolidate loads without worrying about cross-contamination from harsher detergents typically used for tough kid stains.
Does the bottle have any safety concerns in a nursery or playroom setting?
The aluminum bottle is sturdy and child-resistant when closed. As with any cleaning product, we recommend storing it out of reach of young children, but it does not pose the flammability or chemical exposure risks of many conventional detergents.
I'm a first-time parent. Is this a good detergent to start with from day one?
Yes. It is one of the most parent-trusted options for newborn laundry because it is independently certified for safety, free from common irritants, and powerful enough to handle the constant mess of new parenthood.
Will washing cloth diapers in this cause buildup or reduce absorbency over time?
No. The formula is free of dyes, softeners, and heavy fillers that cause residue buildup, so cloth diapers retain their absorbency wash after wash when properly rinsed.
Can I use this for handwashing baby items when I do not want to run a full load?
Yes. For delicate baby items or small handwash loads, the dedicated Handwash & Delicates variant is gentle on fibers while still providing the same enzyme-based cleaning power.
How does this compare to mainstream 'baby' detergents that still contain fragrance?
Many baby detergents still use masking fragrance and optical brighteners. Dirty Labs Free & Clear contains zero fragrance or dyes, and the cleaning power comes from enzyme technology rather than harsh surfactants, making it a cleaner choice for infant skin.
Is this safer than the dermatologist-recommended brands I've seen at the store?
It meets and often exceeds those standards, with EPA Safer Choice Partner status, 97% USDA Biobased certification, and a fully disclosed nontoxic ingredient list free of CA Prop.65 chemicals, which many store brands do not match.
I'm worried about residue on my toddler's pajamas affecting their skin overnight. Will this rinse clean?
Yes. The hyper-concentrated formula is designed to rinse completely, leaving no soap film on sleepwear, which is important for children with sensitive or eczema-prone skin.
Does it kill the bacteria in baby clothes, or do I still need a separate sanitize cycle?
The enzyme technology removes organic soils and odor-causing residues effectively in normal and cold-water cycles. For hospital-grade sanitization, we recommend following your machine's sanitize cycle guidance alongside this detergent.
My kid has severe allergies. Should I run an extra rinse cycle just to be safe?
An extra rinse is never harmful, but it is generally not necessary. The formula is free of the dyes, fragrances, and harsh surfactants that typically trigger allergic reactions, and it rinses clean in standard cycles.
How much detergent should I use per load?
For a standard load, use the amount indicated on the bottle's cap, typically one capful for normal soil and slightly more for heavily soiled laundry. The hyper-concentrated 21.6 fl oz formula is designed to deliver up to 80 loads per bottle, so a little goes a long way.
Can I use this detergent in cold water?
Yes. The formula is specifically optimized for cold-water washing, which saves energy and is gentler on fabrics. The proprietary Phytolase enzyme technology remains effective at lower temperatures.
How do I pre-treat tough stains with this detergent?
Apply a small amount of the concentrate directly to the stain, gently rub it in, and let it sit for 5 to 10 minutes before washing. For set-in stains, repeat as needed before laundering on your usual cycle.
Is this detergent compatible with high-efficiency (HE) washing machines?
Yes. The low-sudsing, hyper-concentrated formula is fully compatible with both HE and standard washing machines and will not cause excess foam or residue buildup.
Can I use this detergent on pet bedding, blankets, and throw covers?
Yes. The nontoxic, hypoallergenic formula is safe for pet bedding, blankets, and throws, and the enzyme technology is particularly effective at removing pet odors and organic stains.
What is included in the box when I order this product?
Each order includes one 21.6 fl oz hyper-concentrated aluminum bottle of the selected scent variant, which delivers up to 80 loads. No additional accessories are required, and the bottle is ready to use immediately.
Is this detergent safe for people with allergies or chemical sensitivities?
Yes. The Free & Clear variant is hypoallergenic and free of sulfates, dyes, parabens, fragrance, and CA Prop.65 chemicals. The formula is also EPA Safer Choice certified and 97% USDA Biobased, making it a trusted choice for allergy-prone households.
Will the formula leave residue on clothes that could irritate skin?
No. The formula is engineered to rinse completely clean, leaving no soap film, dye, or synthetic fragrance on fabrics, which is especially important for underwear, baby clothes, and bed linens.
What is the difference between liquid laundry detergent and laundry pods or powder?
Liquid detergent like Dirty Labs Bio-Liquid dissolves fully in any water temperature, allows for easy pre-treating of stains, and delivers enzyme-based cleaning with precise dosing. Pods offer convenience but often contain higher water-soluble plastic and fixed doses, while powders can sometimes leave residue in cold water and offer less stain pre-treatment flexibility.
